About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Suggestion and if visa needed

Hello! My family of 5 is from SFO to Shanghai. We have a layover of layoff 15 hrs 10 min and then to Tokyo, Japan. Can we leave the airport to eat, explore a little bit of street and come back?
1. Do we need a visa?
2. Can we take train or get taxi out?
3. Recommendation for affordable place to eat or sleep before we come back to airport before 9am?

Don’t worry, you can enjoy the 72-hour free stay, so no visa is needed. Of course you can take a train/bus/taxi to leave the airport.

You are suggested to stay in Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, which is a good place to enjoy yourselves. What’s more, it’s also near to attractions like Yuyuan Garden, the Bund, and People’s Park.
