About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

New Zealand to Shanghai

Hi there, based on how I read the policy, if I just travel from Auckland to Shanghai, then leave Shanghai back to Auckland, I will not be able to qualify for the 144 hour policy, is that correct?

But if I go from Auckland - SHanghai, stay for 2 days, then Shanghai - Taipei, then Taipei - Shanghai 3 days, then I can take advantage of the visa free policy?

Thanks

Correct. Auckland-Shanghai-Auckland is not ok. But Auckland-Shanghai-Taipei-Shanghai-Auckland is fine.
