About:Visa Policy of China

YVR - CAN - HAN return month later SGN - XMN - YVR

I'm Canadian flying return from Canada to Vietnam with layovers in China.
Vancouver (YVR) - 5 hr layover Guangzhou (CAN) - Hanoi (HAN) then return to Canada 30 days later
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) - 10 hr layover Xiamen (SMN) - Vancouver (YVR). Am I eligible for visa exemption, 24 hour free transit? Can I leave the airport in China or do I require a permit, and if so, what are the requirements?

Hi, you are eligible for 24 hour direct transit in both directions. Guangzhou does not allow you to leave the airport during the transit time anymore. But you can leave Xiamen airport to explore the city of Xiamen. You would be required to hold a visa to leave Guangzhou airport. You can apply for a transit G type for that, and the requirements are your passport and copy of its data page, the application form, a passport-style photo, round trip air tickets.
