About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong - Shanghai - Osaka

This March I am planning a trip and we will be flying to Shanghai from Hong Kong on 3/26 and then flying to Osaka, Japan on 3/29. Would this 144-hour visa exception apply?
