About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transit visa - Guangzhou

Good Afternoon.

My son will be traveling from Vietnam to the U.S in November.  He is an American citizen and has a US passport.  He has a 16 hour layover in Guangzhou, China, and would like to leave the airport to visit the center city.  Can he do this without a Chinese entry permit?

Thank you for your help with this.

According to the latest news, the 24 hr direct transit prohibits qualified passengers transiting in Guangzhou to leave the sterile transit zone. So if your son want to leave the airport, he needs to apply for a visa beforehand for that.
