144 hour transit visa - Shanghai

As a UK passport holder travelling from London to Shanghai, we are staying for two nights then boarding a cruise bound for S. Korea and other SE Asian countries, finishing in Hong Kong before flying back to UK. Can we use the 144 hour transit exemption entering Shanghai?
