About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

San Francisco to New Delhi with 2 transits in china

Hi,
I am traveling from San Francisco to New Delhi and I have 2 transits
1. Qingdao where I have 14 hours layover mostly at night so I will take a hotel close to the airport and rest
2. Shanghai - I have 12 hours layover there from 9am to 9pm and I would like to go sight seeing there
Will I qualify for the 72 hour free transit or since at qingdao my next leg is within china so I do not qualify? Says you should be flying to a third country (I am flying to india as such but have a flight from qingdoa to shanghai)

Vandy, you won't qualify for the 72 hour free transit because of your layover in Qingdao. You need to apply for a transit G or tourist L type for that in advance.
