transit in shanghai for peruvian passport

I am flying Singapore to New York on China Eastern via Shanghai.I arrive in Shanghai at 1 pm , but depart the following day at 11 am. I would like to check in to a hotel for the night. Do I need a visa or the 24hr free will suffice?

Carola, you will be eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. No transit G type will be required then. But you need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office inside the Shanghai airport to check in to a hotel for the night.
