Hong Kong to china

Hong Kong to China
Due to go to Hong Kong 28th September2017 visit my daughter who lives there. Whilst there booked flight to China only for a few days but didn't find out until booked that I need a visa? My son is also travelling with me.
Are we able to change our flight/transfer to another port of call because we are not going to get our entry permits back in time?

Hong Kong-China-Macau would work. Or Hong Kong-China-(Any other country)-Hong Kong. You must be on non-stop flights.
