Whats the process of travelling to Hongkong, is it just booking the ticket and travelling or do I have to visit the China embassy for various clarifications?

You can go to HK directly as Kenya passport holders can enjoy free entry to HK for a stay of not over 90 days. You need to bring passport, the return ticket and enough travel fees.
