About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can 72 hr visa be used entering from a seaport on a cruise ship and leaving from an airport

There's no 72h visa in China.

I have read there is a 72 hour travel entry permit as long as to enter from one country and leave to another but not sure if can be used for entry by sea ports and exit by airport

If you refer to the Chinese 72 hr free transit, you can enjoy the policy as long as you leave and enter the country by air. Otherwise, you cannot use it.

If you arrive at Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal or Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal and you have a confirmed non-stop onward flight ticket to a third country then you are eligible for 144 hours free transit at Shanghai, providing your passport is from one of the qualifying countries.
