About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we need visa! Do we need to get it from the Philippines or in the USA before we leave?

My 2 teenager kids and I are going on March 8-12, 2018 to Beijing China for sightseeing. We are US citizens and will be doing mission work in the Philippines on January 8- March 8, 2018.

Yes, you need to apply for tourist L type for that. Usually, one is advised to make the application one month prior to the trip, so you can do that in the Philippines in Feb., and it's possible for you to get the L type from there as long as you have valid residence permit in the Philippines.

If so, you are advised to make the application from your home country. You can apply for a 1-year one which costs the same as single-entry one.
