GOING TO SEOUL WITH STOP IN BEIJING - NEED A VISA?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am planning to go to Korea, but the airlines has a stop in Beijing. Does the 72 hours exemption for people with destination in a third country apply to Dutch citizens?

Can I do sightseeing when I arrive at the airport? or go to a hotel? I mean, China is not my final destination, do I need to ask for a VISA at your embassy?

I live in Denmark but have Dutch nationality. I would very much appreciate your response
With Kind Regards,
Eliana

Eliana, if you travel like Netherlands – Beijing (72 hours)- Seoul, you can use the 72 hour free transit in Beijing. No need to apply for a visa then. You can go to a hotel or visit the city after arriving at the airport.

Hi Edwin,
Thanks a lot! I live in Denmark and it is my first visit to China.
Do you know if it is safe to take a taxi and how far is the airport
from the Chinese wall?

Beijing's airport is the biggest in the planet, I am afraid to get lost
there :)
Xiexie!
Dankjewel!

Usually, it is very safe to take an official taxi and you should require the taxi driver to meter. There are many sections of Great Wall. I presume you refer to the Badaling Section. It is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the airport. It may cost CNY 300 for a single trip. Besides, you don’t need to worry about getting lost because both English and Chinese direction signs are pretty clear at capital airport.
