About:Requirements for Permanent Residence Permit

Working remotely on a Q1 type

My family is planning to move to China in a year time and stay there permanently. We simply prefer living in China.

It would be practical for me if I could work remotely for my current employer on a Q1 type, and I know people who do it without getting in trouble. However, is it completly legal, or just tolerated? How will this affect the application for Permanent Residence?

I am worried that they will look through my visa history and expect to find 5 years of Z-type.

Usually, you cannot work in China on a Q type, but if you just live in China and work for a foreign company online or something, I don’t think it will cause any problem. Or you can confirm that with the exit and entry administration of the local PSB. Just to play safe.
