buying tickets on the day

I want to buy a ticket for guanghzou to hong kong train on the 12th August, would it be possible to buy a ticket on the day at the station ?

Yes, it is OK to buy it at the station directly in cash. But the availability is very hard to say. If they are fully booking, you can go to Shenzhen first instead then to HK by MTR.
