About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Notifying carrier

Hi, i am travelling from Perth to Shanghai via Singapore airlines and then catching a china eastern flight to Taipei.

So:
Perth to (Singapore to Shanghai to Taipei)

Do I qualify for the 144 hr free transit?

Do I notify Singapore Airlines in Perth that i will be using the 144 hr free transit?

Yes. There's no need to notify the carrier in advance as the documents will only be verified at the check-in.

Furthermore, on the return trip, I will be flying from Taipei to Shanghai to Singapore...

I will still qualify for the visa free transit if i stay in shanghai for less thatn 144 hours?

No. In North America, check-in means the process to get your boarding pass from an agent at the departure airport. I have no idea what you call this process in Australia. And yes, you can get another 144-hour stay on your return.
