About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Seoul - shanghai - Uk

I am flying seoul - shanghai - uk and plan on being in shanghai for 3 days. However my onward flight from shanghai to the UK has a 2hour stopover (not leaving the aiport) in Guangzhou will i still qualify for the 144hour free transit in shanghai?

No, you won't qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai because of your stopover in Guangzhou.

This is probably very frowned upon but could i buy a cheap flight from shanghai to HK which will allow me the 144hour visa. But not get on it and get on my flight back to london (via guangzhou)???

Well you can do it of course if you wish to stay longer in China.
Do you think the chinese immigration are idiots and you can play around with them?
Your flights are in their database and if you skip your HK flight they´ll catch you at the exit immigration.
Have fun and enjoy it.
