does it qualify if u do lax to beijing to hong kong to shanghai to lax?

We were thinking of traveling from LAX to Beijing and do a stop over there for the 72 hour free visa and then on to Hong Kong.  But then thinking of doing a lay over in Shanghai for a few days for the 144 free transit and then back to LAX.  Would this qualify to do the 72 hour and 144 hour within a span of about a week and a half?

Hi, you qualify for the 72 hour and 144 hour direct transit in Beijing and Shanghai respectively if you travel like LAX-Beijing (72 hours)-HK-Shanghai (144 hours)-LAX. Have a nice trip!
