About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am British citizen travelling to UK from Singapore via Beijing

and will be in Beijing for less than 72 hours. Will I be able to visit Great Wall on 72 Visa-free transit? If so where is best place for accommodation between Great Wall, airport and city?
