About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transiting in China for less than 24 hours

HI All

If I fly:
1) into Shanghai at 8.30pm on 7 Nov 17 from Tokyo;
2) then from Shanghai to Changsha at 7am on 8 Nov 17;
3) then from Changsha to Sydney at 17.45pm on 8 Nov 17, my total stay in China is less than 24hours.

Do you know:
a) if I could leave Shanghai airport to sleep in a hotel on the 7 Nov 17, without a visa
b) if I could leave Changsha airport for sight seeing on 8 Nov 17, without an entry permit

Steve, you don’t need it. You can use the 24 hour direct transit. You just need to apply for a temporary stay permit at Shanghai airport and then you can go to the hotel and leave for Changsha as well.
