You´ve to apply for a transit visa G as there´s no free transit for malaysian passport holders at the moment.

I am a Malaysian too and will be in transit in Guangzhou to Oslo.

A MALAYSIAN friend just transit thru Beijing to New York , transit for 6 hours, and she said Malaysians do not need to app,y fir a transit G type beforehand.

So yes it is confusing.

It seems that it was not a blanket ban even in 2016, as Malaysians and Thais flying on non-Chinese airlines have never been asked for a transit visa. The only semi-official documentation one can find is a post on China Southern Malaysia's FB page, which dated back in January 2016.
