Shanghai Lay over

Im flying United Airlines lax - Tokyo for a week
then On Delta Airlines
Osaka - shanghai - back to Lax where im from

is this ok for my Visa free shanghai 72 hr layover ?

That's OK if your Shanghai-LAX flight does not stop in Japan.
