About:China Visa Application in USA

72 hours in Beijing before leaving by train

Do I need to apply for a visa if I will be flying into Beijing, staying for less than 72 hours, and leaving Beijing via train (Trans-Siberian railway)? Or does the 72-hour free transit stay only apply for flying in AND out of Beijing? I have a US passport

Erika, you cannot use the 72-hour free transit policy in Beijing because you leave there by train. You need to enter and exit China by air if you want to use the policy.
