Can I travel by train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou airport to fly to Australia without a visa?

I know I can do this as a transit passenger (without a visa) if I fly into Guangzou but I don't know if I can go by train from Hong Kong to the Guangzhou airport on my way to flying to Australia on China Southern.
