Travel to Kashgar

Hello, is it possible to travel independently, without an official guide or tour package, to Kashgar?
We are French.

Yes, it's possible but you need a travel permit if going to places like Baihaba, Bayanbulak, Taxkorgan City. Note that you need to register at the local police office within 24 hours upon arrival.
