New Zealand - Shanghai - Sydney

I intend to fly New Zealand - Shanghai - Australia, staying in Shanghai for 3 days. It's a bit of a strange transit, do you think they would question it? Tickets will most likely be from different airlines. Will this be alright? Also I won't have a visa for Australia as New Zealand passports get automatic entry.

No need to worry! It will be ok. Different airlines are fine. You are able to get the 144 hour visa-free transit in Shanghai. Nice trip!
