Application info at Washington, D.C. Embassy

Do I need an appointment at the China Embassy to apply for a visa? What is the cost? What method of payment is accepted?

You don’t need to make an appointment. It costs USD 140 per person.
You can pay by Master Card, Visa card, Money Order, Cashier's Check or company check.
