About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel from Taiwan to Shanghai then to America for US citizen

I am an US citizen travelling from Taiwan then to Shanghai Pudong Wednesday afternon to visit a friend for a couple days then returning to Los Angeles on Friday night. I will never leave the Pudong area of Shanghai, is the 72 (or 144 hour) visa good for me?
