About:China Visa Exemption

Lax > shanghai (11 hours layover) > seoul, south korea

Do i need a visa to leave the airport to explore shanghai?
I've read stories that people couldn't board the plane, once they left the airport and was stuck, and could not board the plane.

Never heard of such a thing, but it's possible to be stuck in traffic and miss your flight.
