Hi, you can travel to HK by train, and if you travel like Phuket-Guangzhou(14 hours)-HK, no visa will be needed because you can use the 24 hour direct transit in Guangzhou.

I would advise to get the onward boarding pass from Phuket as immigration and language barriers sometimes there will be problems obtaining the transit visa.

You will need a visa to go by train to Hong Kong and then back to Guangzhou to get your flight.
