About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I fly Hong Kong - Shanghai - Macau?

Yes, you can fly like that. If your country belongs to one of the above qualified countries and you stop in Shanghai for less than 144 hours, you can use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.

If your country does qualify for the 144 hour free transit policy, you can travel like HK-eligible city-Macau to enjoy the free transit. It is not cheating the system.

I came here to ask the same question. I live in Hong Kong and my current Chinese Visa has expired (will get another one at some point), but I was wondering if a possible loophole in the meantime for a short trip to China would be to fly from Hong Kong to one of the eligible cities, and back to Macau (or the other way around). Technically, it would seem allowable since you're entering from and leaving to two different international destinations, but would they actually allow it since it's quite clear you'd be trying to cheat the system?

Thanks John, Yes a UK passport and flights booked. Have both returns HK & Macau will get advice i Shanghai airport then cancel the other.

Hi Gavin,

Flying on Monday so will soon find out and keep you informed. Last minute thing so did not have time to get my China Visa. I have both returns, HK & Macau so will get advice in Shanghai airport then cancel the other.
