About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I fly to Guangzhou, can I go to Hong Kong for 1 or 2 days and re-enter China with a 72 hour visa

As per the following rule:
"Passengers transiting in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Qingdao, or Changsha are allowed to travel in the whole province."
Does this mean I can't go to Hong Kong?

If you fly like Australia-Guangzhou (72 hours)-HK-Guangzhou (72 hours)-Australia, it will be ok. You can use the 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou twice.

Thanks Nick

I want to fly into Guangzhou, get my 72 hour free transit, get a train to Hong Kong and then back to Guangzhou within the 72 hour period expires before my onward connection. My suspicion is they wont let me back into China on that visa but I just wanted to check.

Don't even think about trying that.

Agreed, don't even think about it. You will NOT have a "72 hour visa", you have 72 hours transit without visa. Of course you wouldn't be able to re-enter China from Hong Kong, but that's irrelevant because you wouldn't be able to board the train in Guangzhou in the first place. Don't try to break the rules, and don't mess with Chinese immigration.
