can i get off before the final destination on the ticket?

I booked a ticket from Chongqing to Shanghai. Since the train will stop at HangZhou, I was thinking to get off at Hangzhou. I assume it should be OK, but I'm not sure if the machines at the exit would find it out and give me any trouble.

I think you may booked K73 or Z258? It is not problem to get off in advance and go through the machines exit. And there is also hand-check exit as well. One thing need to be noticed if you hold a sleeper ticket: Before getting off at Hangzhou, you need to change the paper ticket back from the conductor and return the boarding card back.
