i am planning a trip in august 2017 to dali from dandong.

Is it possible to take a high speed train, or will it be better by air?Are there any low cost hotels available?

As the information I checked, there is no high speed train operating between two places. You may need to take a plane. There are many economic express hotels there, if you don’t mind, you may tell me which area you want to stay in the city. Then I can recommend you with a reasonable hotel.
