About:China Visa Application in UK

i am travelling to china from the uk on a British passport

I would like to know if I travel to Hong Kong and then visit Guangzhou will I still need to apply for a visa. My stay in china is very short 5 days and maybe a 1-2 nights in Guangzhou, I am finding the price for a visa to Guangzhou very expensive, is their any other way?

If you travel like UK-HK-Guangzhou (72 hours)-UK, you will be able to use the 72 hour free transit. No visa will be needed then.
However, if you travel like UK-HK-Guangzhou-HK, you need to apply for a visa in advance.
