Do I qualifty for direct transit?

Hello,

I am from the UK and I have been working in China since last year. Knowing that I would be returning to the UK at the end of this June, I bought a return ticket. However I'd like to visit Taiwan and South Korea before returning home. If I buy a ticket from e.g. Korea - Beijing, and then use my return ticket to go from Beijing - UK - do I still qualify for direct transit?

I'm dreading the idea of being stuck with Chinese police if I mess up the rules!

Thanks in advance for your help!
