About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a visa to transfer planes, or just my passport?

Im From The US, visiting Thailand, Im flying back to the US, via, One stop in Vietnam, and another in China, before I get to the US. My layover in each airport is only a few hours.

Socrates, if so, you can enjoy 24 hour direct transit in China. No visa will be needed then.
