About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

I leave the uk to go to America for two months in June and will be heading to china in august.

The single entry 3 month validity scares me as I fear the visa may run out before I reach china. Is it possible for me to apply for a 6month valid multiple entry visa, would this suit my needs more ?

British citizens can can apply for 2-year multiple-entry visa for China, but you need to request it on the application form.
