X2 visa with multiple entries

I am going to Shanghai to study for 2 months but I'm planning to stay for longer and travel around China and nearby territories (HK and Macau). I would like to get a multiple entry visa but if I can't, could I apply for a tourist visa with multiple entries?
Thank you

You cannot get the X2 type with multiple entries. You are advised to apply for the X2 type to study in China, after that, you can change your X2 type to L type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China for your traveling.
