I am flying into Shanghai Pu Dong airport from JFK New York 4/7 - 4/12 ... do I need a visa for these days?

If you will fly to a third country or region rather than USA after staying in Shanghai, you will be able to use the 144 hour free transit. No visa will be needed then.
