arriving in guangzhou onward to hong kong

Question

I will be arriving in Guangzhou and would like to travel from there directly by train or taxi to Hong Kong. After one week I will go the opposite way. From Hong Kong to Guangzhou. I am a German citizen. Do I need a visa for the transfer from and back to Guangzhou?

Yes. However, you must have a valid ticket or booking confirmation and present it to the airline and immigration officer when entering through Guangzhou airport. This part is tricky since most people buy their train ticket on arrival. As for entering Guangzhou via the train station, your flight booking is sufficient.
