72 hour free Visa in Beijing

Hello,
I bought a holiday for my family to Tokyo with a stop over in Beijing, we are flying this Wednesday 29 March.
When I booked the flights in August the 72 hours for Beijing Airport counted from arrival date to departure date until 11:59 PM, now I have checked again and it seems the rules changed from end of October and they count the 72 hours ( only for Beijing) from arrival time to departure time, in which case we are 1 hour and 30 minutes over the 72 hours allowance and now don't have time to get a Visa.
I read in TripAdvisor that they are very strict and denied entry to some people for been over the 72 hours just for 1 hour.
Any advice what to do please?
Thank you.

You have three options: 1) Get a visa. 2) Change your flights. 3) Add a side-trip such as PEK-HKG-PEK.
