australian resident (pakistani passport) visa processing time

I have booked a ticket for 22/04/2017 to Beijing and returning to Sydney on 25/04/2017. I applied for a visa today in the morning (23/03/2017) and got a call from the consulate at 3:00pm to collect my passport. The lady was not clear about rejection or return. is it possible to have my passport returned the same day when I had actually applied for the 4 day one? or has it been rejected? I will collect my passport on Monday as I was not able to go today

It's hard to say, but you can collect your passport on Monday.

I just collected my passport and it has not been rejected but has been returned. They have also kept all the paperwork I submitted. There is no explanation what so ever. I applied for it on 23rd march and my travel date is 22/04/2017. how do I get in touch with the embassy for a reason?
