About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I work for an US airline and will be traveling through PEK on standby and again through HGH

on the way back to the US, Will be confirmed standby and will have documents showing intent to travel but not a confirmed seat. Will the 72 hr exemption apply for travel without a confirmed seat in this case?

No. Standby is not allowed. Only confirmed and ticketed flights.
