About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi. I'm staying in Shanghai for 6 days next week with the 144visa on arrival.

I don't know where to stay yet in Shanghai. Thinking about couchsurfing. I found quite a bit expensive hotels so far. My question is: how can i register myself to the police? If it's a hard job to do? Losing a whole day? If so, i though about going my first night in a hotel (so they do it for me) and then leaving to somewhere else. Would this be ok?

Thanks

Ali, actually it's not difficult to register yourself at the local police station. The process is quite simple. However, considering you cannot speak Chinese and you may lose your way, I advise you to spend your first night in a hotel so as to let the hotel register for you.
