About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Just Over 72 hour stop

Hello, I am travelling from the U.K to Guangzhou and then on to Thailand. I arrive in Guangzhou at 5pm and to my understanding the 72hours visa begins after midnight that day is this correct? Also from midnight onwards I am there for 72 hours and my departing flight is at 00.10 so 10 minuites after the allowed time however I would have already boarded the plane by then. Would this be an issue if I want a 72 hour free transit? And essentially being there over 72 hours if calculated from arrival at 5pm

Don’t worry! You can travel like that and enjoy the free transit in Guangzhou. The 144 hour free transit is carried out in Guangzhou now.

You can run into trouble maybe in the UK as TIMATIC don't mention the 144h twov in Guangdong yet.
If the airline checks TIMATIC and there's no 144h twov for Guangdong they may will deny you to board the flight.

I agree with Thomas. You're running a risk of being denied boarding in UK if the agent checks Timatic. Others have experienced problems with departures from China just after midnight. Your boarding time is completely irrelevant, it's only the scheduled departure time that matters. I'd be more comfortable on Shenzhen Airlines departing at 23.55, Thai AirAsia at 23.45 and China Southern at 22.55 (although schedule changes could still mess these up). If you decide to take the risk, I'd leave plenty of time to check-in. Hope you might report back here.

Thank you Thomas and Robin for your advice I was not aware of this. I will try to look into changing my flight to the earlier 22.55 with china southern to avoid this problem.
