About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I hold an Australian passport. I have just booked a flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo via Beijing.

It will arrive in Beijing 23:25pm and leaving to Tokyo the next day at 9:25am. Then on the way to back to Hong Kong from Tokyo, it will arrive at Chengdu at 13:20 and leaving to Hong Kong the next day at 8:20am.

Would you please let me know for the above trips, do I qualify for 72 free transit or I would need to apply for the normal tourist visa?

Thanks
Alice
