Taipei weather in late May/early June?

I was planning to be there last 2 weeks of May and first few days of June. I heard rain and thunderstorms usually take place in the afternoon or evening. If late May still a good time for hiking the mountains and Taroko Gorge?
We would be staying in Taipei and mainly exploring the north and center of the island. We don't plan to travel further south than Kaohsiung?
Should we get our hiking activities done as soon as possible?

According to the previous statistics, there will have many light rainy days in late May and early June. To be honest, it is not advised to hike mountains in rainy days. The climate will be ok for you to tour around downtown area.

I don't mind "light" rain. And I guess that rule applies to mountains anywhere. I want to at least visit Taroko Gorge and that national park in Taipei that starts with a Y. I will just wait and see what the weather will be like before booking a trip to Taroko. The hiking is one of the main reasons I chose Taiwan. We already booked our tickets, so there is nothing we can do about it now, accept hope that there will be at least one or two days break in the rain. 80% of my trip will be spend outside of Taipei. At least that's what I had planned.

I've hiked in the Tatras before during light rain, and it wasn't too bad. But if it's too wet, I'll probably have to skip the Pingxi Crags.
