About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Phnom Penh to Kunming (Layover) to Shanghai(stop) to LAX

I'm from LA flying to Phnom Penh but on my way to to LAX from Phnom Penh, I'll be stopping in Kunming(Layover time is approximately 10 hours) and to Shanghai (stop for 2 hours) and to LAX. Am I eligible to get 72 hour visa Free pass in Kunming to stay at a hotel? I'm a US citizen.

Helen, you won’t qualify for the 72 hour free transit, but you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. When you arrive at Kunming airport, you can go to the immigration office to apply for a free temporary stay permit, and then you can go outside the airport to stay at a hotel.
