Dual Nationality, Under which citizenship should I apply for a Chinese visa

I hold both UK and South African citizenship and reside in South Africa.

No matter you hold which passport, you need to get a Chinese visa. Considering you are currently in South Africa, you should apply for it with your South African passport.
